The 13th Chord - My favorite chord is the 13th chord. When playing a 13th chord it allows you to show the excitement and beauty of a song. You can use a 13th chord to pass from 1 chord to the next without making the song sound choppy. When playing a 13th chord on an organ use a mellow tone for a mellow song, or pull out the draw board on a time for worship. The best way to use a 13th chord at first is play around and add it to your chord progressions and songs. Just play around with it. They always say experience is the best teacher.
So... What is a 13th chord?

Right Hand(Bass) | Left Hand(Treble)
(C) use 2 octives | (Bb)+(D)+(E)+(A)

What notes to use in any key.

(1) use 2 octives | (7b)+(2)+(3)+(6)

Secret #2: USE YOUR SCALES!!!
You didn't learn your piano scales for nothing!!!!! To hear a beautiful song and hear the pianist play up and down the piano makes the song. Also when you know your scales you can create fill in notes and make the song come alive. My favorite scale is the Blues scale. I use it in upbeat and major worship songs(This scale is also best on the organ when the preacher is preaching.
To revisit the basics, and learn the strategies learn your scales, or relearn them again. Remember basics is what builds to the extreme. When you are about to play a song warm up with a scale, when you know that scale throw it in the song as a fill in.
